Anissa is the 2015 award recipient of a $500 scholarship from the Lupus Inspiration Foundation For Excellence (L.I.F.E.) www.lifescholarship.org.
She was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus when she was eleven years old. The pre-teen diagnosis was hard for her and her parents but she has learned to embrace any and all hurdles! She has lived with lupus for the past eight years and believes she is the person she is today because of lupus.
She is a full time college student at Hawaii Pacific University who is majoring in pre-medicine and hoping to one day be able to help others with lupus!
As president of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society she was on the Dean’s List and has been working hard to achieve her goals.
A graduate of Maryknoll Schools, she made both the Dean’s list and the Principle’s list. In her free time she enjoys dancing hula which she has done for the past ten years with Ho’omaika’i Hula Studio.
Together the Sjögren’s and Lupus Foundation of Hawaii with the Lupus Inspiration Foundation For Excellence (L.I.F.E.) are happy to support and nurture our future leaders living with lupus every day!

Melaca,
This is awesome! It is great when organizations work together for the greater good of society. Anissa is a remarkable person and deserved the recognition she received. L.I.F.E. is so proud of her and we know she will continue to fulfill her dreams despite the limitations of lupus. She has already demonstrated her drive to succeed. She is a courageous fighter! She may experience bumps or setbacks during her journey, but it is the finish line that matters. And I know Anissa has a bright future ahead of her. Go Anissa!
With much Love,
Jodi Norton
