Aloha and welcome to the Sjögren’s and Lupus Foundation of Hawaii! I am excited to have the foundation and website up and running so we can get started and help make a difference for those living with both autoimmune diseases. My mission and goals are to help educate, support and provide valuable resources everyday.
The foundation is working hard to meet the needs of those living with an autoimmune disease. My personal journey living with Sjögren’s syndrome has motivated me to start this foundation and help those who are newly diagnosed or previously diagnosed with both Sjögren’s syndrome and Lupus.
I was diagnosed with Sjögren’s syndrome in February 2011.
I was sick and out of work for two and a half months in September –November of 2010. As an RN, when I heard the diagnosis of Sjögren’s syndrome, I was in shock! I was not familiar with this autoimmune disease and had no idea where to start to learn about it. As it started to sink in that I needed to get educated and figure out how to take care of myself, I turned to my physician.
A little over four years after being diagnosed, I have started the foundation! I have been on an amazing journey that has taught me so much that I want to share the wealth of knowledge and opportunity I have gained!
I myself have made many life changes over the past four years and continue to do so every day. I have made adjustments in my life on a daily basis which include eating, exercise (actually doing it), sleep, ATTITUDE, mindset and job! Being FLEXIBLE helps out a whole lot too. I have overcome anxieties that have helped me to be an overall HEALTHY and very HAPPY person today! I am excited to continue learning and making adjustments in my life that allow me to live to my fullest potential each day……….
I have met and worked with some amazing doctors, medical professionals and people living with Sjögren’s syndrome and Lupus. Every day I experience something wonderful that makes me thankful for all that I have in my life! I want to share what I have and help others to take care of themselves to always be healthy and happy…………..Take Care! Melaca
